Subject: FCMBL update

To all,

This is an update on the “Frederick County Metro League Baseball League”, it’s Monday, August 18th and it was back during week of June 9th that I started the idea of creating this league BUT unfortunately, this league is NOT going to happen for the summer of 2009 as far as I am concerned for several reasons :

- lack of players interests ( see attached screen print of gmail inbox )
- lack of “sports call announcement” in local papers, because I have not seen it unless I missed it ?
- lack of an “official” press release from FCPRD

The idea was out there but the lack of interest from players has resulted in this idea going by the wayside. If anyone else would like to take the lead on this opportunity, please feel free to do so as I have other opportunities that I am pursing and other projects that I am currently working on that will require the majority of my time.

I did state that September 1st was the deadline to determine IF this could be a go or not, but unfortunately, this is no sense in putting off the inevitable.

Regrettably,
Coach Milburn

Tavis Laws (FCPRD) and Jeff Milburn will be collecting data until September 1, 2008 ... and then will reevaluate this opportunity.

This will be a no age restriction "wood bat" league for players that live in Frederick, Clarke, Shenandoah, Warren Counties and City of Winchester and bordering WV counties of Berkeley, Jefferson, Morgan and Hardy that would “mirror” the RCBL league www.rcblonline.com down in Rockingham County. We hope to startup in late May of 2009 only IF the demand is there.

- ALL games will be 9 innings with 7pm or 7:30pm start times

- Games will be played at the local high school facilities that are some of the best in the state.

- Teams will based on the high school that you are attending or graduated from ??? Just an idea at this point, nothing is set-in-stone yet ... still brain-storming on how each team should be created.

- There will be a "limit" on the number of "free-agents" per team. "Free-agents" will be consider players outside of the counties as described above which players will be drawn from.

- There is a good possibility of this being a co-sponsored program thru Frederick County Park and Recreation Department

- This league is NOT taking the place of any local American Legion teams.

We are looking for General Mgr's/Head Coaches for each respective team.

Why is this league being developed ?

- To improve the quality of local high school baseball by giving the "top level" players the best competition available within a 25 mile radius of Winchester

- The "elite" high school players will be the "foundation" to build this league on

- The bulk of playes will probably range in ages 17-25

*** We plan to feature an ALL-STAR game for the high school athletes that are members of the league. We will be inviting many college coaches to scout the event and it will be at NO cost to players to participate in ***

- A "competitive" league for current college players to compete in and for those older guys that wants to play “HardBall” and not softball.

- For the baseball enthusiasts
