Winter Season - December 7th

By now most have probably heard of the sudden and tragic death of Adam Sigler. Adam, 41, was the oldest child of Connie and Steve Sigler, founder and president of MSBL. Our sympathies go out to Steve and the Sigler family. A Memorial Tribute to Adam is posted at AZMSBL.com. Following is the link.

BILL COCCHIA

Bill Cocchia, who is one of the elite baseball players in our league, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Billy has been playing in the league since 1988. His hitting and pitching achievements are legendary and his remarkable career includes 33 World Series rings. Whether it was a key hit, or clutch pitching, Billy was always able to come through when his teams needed him most. He was such a tough out, that teams decided that the best strategy was to get him to join their team, rather than to try to get him out.
Now we need to join Billy in his battle against prostate cancer. Billy is facing his toughest opponent and he needs to beat this and be able to join us back on the field playing the game he loves.
You can help Billy win this battle by making a donation to the McKenna Youth Foundation on behalf of Billy Cocchia. Your donation is tax deductible and 100% of your donation will go directly to Billy. The website is unable to handle online donations for this specific cause, so please send all donations through mail to:

You’re viewing the League’s page on Scorebook.com, the national web site where you find schedules, scores, rosters, and updates, but have you visited our League’s own www.azmsbl.com? There you will find league rules, forms, photos, and the AZMSBL NEWSLETTER.

The AZMSBL Board is instituting a new feature on our website designed for the enjoyment, baseball education, and increased interaction amongst our approximately 850 member players. We will feature baseball controversies, scoring dilemmas, insights on our members, baseball quizzes, technology and equipment articles, and medical and health highlights. The Executive Board and the Newsletter Board strongly solicit your ideas and your participation. The Newsletter Board consists of AZMSBL President, Lou McAnany; Vice President, John Silingo; Head Umpire, Mark Hratko; former major-league player, Brian Kingman; Executive Board member, Ernie Barten; and Executive Board member and Editor, Eric vanSonnenberg.

AZMSBL NEWSLETTER 1
Is the strike zone the same to and for everyone? Probably not. Read an interesting piece on the strike zone from the perspective of a pitcher by Brian Kingman, a catcher by John Silingo, a hitter by Eric vanSonnenberg, and by head umpire Mark Hratko.

An ongoing feature on “Get to Know Our Players”

SO YOU WANT TO BE AN UMPIRE? Read what former professional umpire, Mark Hratko, has to say. Check it out and see if you have what it takes. And then take a shot on how well you know the rules of the game!

Rotator cuff injuries are discussed by Eric vanSonnenberg, MD.

AZMSBL NEWSLETTER 2
This is the second edition of the AZMSBL Newsletter with a variety of articles, quizzes, photos, and insights about the game we all love, baseball. In this edition you'll find the following:
