The Billy Hitchcock MSBL Makes The Move To All Wood Bats
In this our 2nd year as a league in the MSBL/MABL. Our league has grown from five teams to seven, with over 110 men registered to play. We have also made the dramatic move to become an all wood bat league. Because we have players from 18 to 55, metal
bats became a safety hazard. We also wanted to move toward a more pure form of the game.
The Billy Hitchcock MSBL is located in Auburn, AL and draws ball players from across the Northern Chattahoochee Valley of Alabama and Georgia. We are
honored that Mr. Billy Hitchcock has lent his name in support of amateur baseball. For those of you who are not be aware of Mr. Hitchcock's association with baseball, I offer this brief history:
Mr. Hitchcock was an All-American baseball player
for Auburn University in the mid 1930's. He went on to play professional baseball into the 1950's for Detroit, Washington, and Boston to name a few. He played for Connie Mack in Philadelphia during his 1950 season. After a successful playing career, he
became a manager for Detroit and Baltimore and was the first manager of the Atlanta Braves when they made their move from Milwaukee.
Mr. Hitchcock lives in Opelika, AL and can still be seen enjoying an Auburn University baseball game at their home
field that bears his name - HITCHCOCK FIELD at PLAINSMAN PARK.
